Bonding is a dental procedure to repair broken or chipped teeth, reduce gaps, and reshape or recolor your smile.  Bonding uses a tooth colored resin filling material.  After the tooth is prepared and any decay removed, a mild etching agent is applied.  This toughens the tooth microscopically and allows the bonding material to adhere to your tooth.  Next the resin is placed, sculpted and finished resulting in a pleasing final restoration which matches well to your existing dentition.

Bonding with tooth colored resin can be done in the front or back of your mouth.  Bonding in the posterior of one’s mouth can be used to replace amalgam (silver) fillings, strengthen teeth, and /or create a more natural look.

There are disadvantages of bonding.  They tend to cost more, stain more easily and not last as long as traditional fillings. If bonding is of interest to you please don’t hesitate to call our office and discuss this type of treatment with us.
